Final Fantasy XV breaks records with over 5m units sold
After 10 years in development, Final Fantasy XV (formerly Final Fantasy Versus XIII) was released on 29 November. It seems like the wait has paid off for Square Enix as over five million units of the game have been sold.
According to a press release sent to Gearburn, this makes Final Fantasy XV the fastest-selling title in the series.
The game went on to break the record for the number of digital downloads for a day-one release in Japan.
In Asia, excluding Japan, it also smashed sales numbers for a combination of physical and digital titles sold on the day of release.
Local allocation of the Ultimate Collector’s edition of the game sold out before it released in SA. Ecommerce store Raru, has already sold out of the Deluxe Edition, though most stores do still have stock of the Day One vanilla version of the game.
