Nintendo Switch stars on Jimmy Fallon: here’s what we learnt

Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch made its first proper TV appearance on The Tonight Show this week, as Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime and Jimmy Fallon showed off Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

But the segment also gave us a good look at some of the Switch’s features. Here are a few things we learnt.

How long does it take to go from dock to portable?

The Nintendo Switch stands out thanks to its tablet-like design, allowing you to play on a TV but also take the slate with you for gaming on the go.

Fils-Aime demonstrated this feature on the show, taking the Switch out of its dock. The game switched from the TV to the Switch screen in about six seconds.

It’s rather thin, but has some beefy vents

Yeah yeah, I don’t usually care when tech companies point out how thin their device is, but the Switch is rather slim, as the above screenshot shows.

Aside from what looks like volume buttons on the top left and a slot bay on the right, we’ve also got some big vents for cooling. It wouldn’t be a Tegra device without some sort of noticeable cooling solution, right?

Oh yeah, we’ve got four shoulder buttons

As Ars Technica pointed out, the close-up shot of Fils-Aime handing the Switch to Fallon also confirmed that the system does indeed have four shoulder buttons.

Of course, that means that when you detach the controllers from the Switch, players have two shoulder buttons each.

The back of the dock is rather “clean”

It’s more of an observation if anything, but the back of the Nintendo Switch dock seems to have all the major ports in one location, with only two wires coming from this location.

We’re assuming that an HDMI cable and power cable are shown in the screenshot above.
