Creators Update brings new Xbox One, Windows 10 features
Thanks to the Xbox app and native media capture capabilities, Windows 10 is arguably the best Windows for gaming. But Microsoft is hard at work on the Creators Update, set to bring even more gaming-focused features.
The biggest feature in the new update is Game Mode for Windows 10, which effectively optimises your computer for better gaming.
“Windows Insiders will start seeing some of the visual elements for Game Mode this week, with the feature being fully operational in builds shortly thereafter. Our vision is for Game Mode to optimise your Windows 10 PC for increased performance in gaming,” Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra wrote on the Major Nelson website, adding that more details would be revealed soon.
Another notable addition to Windows 10 (and Xbox One) is Beam streaming, being an alternative to streaming over Twitch. The new feature doesn’t require extra software and allows viewers to “interact” with your stream as well.
The Creators Update for Xbox One and Windows 10 brings a couple of notable features to the table
“On a Windows 10 PC, press Windows + G to pull up the Game bar and click the broadcast button to start streaming. On Xbox One, you can start streaming with one button press from inside the Guide.”
Speaking of Xbox One, Microsoft is also tweaking the Guide functionality, which currently launches via a double-tap of the Xbox button.
“Through one press of the Xbox button on your controller, you’ll be able to pull up the newly enhanced Guide as an overlay on the left side of your screen no matter what you’re doing,” Ybarra wrote.
Otherwise, expect a tweaked activity feed, new tournament functionality and several new social tools.
