Halo Wars 2 on PC is getting a physical release (seriously)
Microsoft was once the king of physical releases for PC games, but in recent years that has tapered off. Now, the company is partnering with THQ Nordic to bring out a boxed version of Halo Wars 2 for the PC crowd.
Announced yesterday, not only will Halo Wars 2 be contained on four DVDs in an actual physical box, but will include access to the Xbox One edition via Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere programme.
Halo Wars 2 will be receive a physical release on PC, spread over several DVDs
Much like the Xbox One edition, the PC version will be released as both the standard and Ultimate Edition of the game. The latter will grant customers four-day early access to the game, the season pass, and Halo Wars Definitive Edition.
It is an interesting approach as the company hasn’t released any of their other Xbox Play Anywhere programme PC games, such as Gears of War 4 and ReCore, as physical editions. Could the company be catering to the recent retro gaming sub-culture of collecting boxed PC games?
Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition will launch on 17 February, while the standard edition will be available on 21 February.
