Xiaomi’s budget Redmi 4A released in South Africa
A few weeks ago, we were tipped off about the Xiaomi Redmi 4A being listed by Incredible Connection. Now, Afrihost has made it official, launching the budget smartphone in South Africa.
The Redmi 4A packs a budget-minded Snapdragon 425 chip (quad core A53), 5-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, dual SIM design and 16GB of expandable storage. In other words, it’s similar to the Redmi 2 Pro in many ways.
This extends to the camera department too, packing a 13-megapixel f/2.2 main shooter and a 5MP selfie camera. Otherwise, you can expect an IR blaster, microUSB (not USB Type-C) and a 3120mAh battery in the package as well.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4A is pretty much a sideways move compared to the Redmi 2 Pro
Afrihost has the device in stock at a prepaid price of R1999 (MIA told Gearburn that this is the suggested price as well). But the ISP also has it available for R100 a month over two years. Either way, you’ll receive 500MB of mobile data a month for a year.
MIA has confirmed that Incredible Connection, Game, Makro, Takealot and the official MIA website will also stock the device.
It’s not the only addition to the stable, as MIA introduced the 32GB Redmi Note 3 as well, packing 3GB of RAM. By comparison, the initial Redmi Note 3 packed 16GB of expandable storage and 2GB of RAM.
The 32GB Note 3 is available for R3999.
