SNES Mini rumoured for release
After the success of the NES Mini (review), Nintendo has apparently decided to launch a SNES Mini console.
The NES Mini, launched late last year, featured 30 NES games, ranging from the Super Mario franchise to Excite Bike and more. However, Nintendo hasn’t been able to keep up with demand, opting for limited production runs instead.
Now, Eurogamer, citing “sources close to the company”, says Nintendo will be launching a SNES Mini console. And these sources say that development of the throwback machine is already underway. It’s unclear whether the console will see a bigger production run than the NES Mini.
How will Nintendo follow the mini NES console? Well, apparently the SNES Mini is in the works
As for potential games, the SNES was home to a wide variety of iconic releases. Nintendo-published titles include Super Mario All Stars, Super Mario World, Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, Kirby’s Dream Land 3, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound and Killer Instinct.
Then there were the third-party publishers, with games like Battle Toads, Breath of Fire 1 and 2, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, the Final Fantasy franchise, Desert Strike, Harvest Moon, the Lufia franchise and Super Bomberman.
In other words, Nintendo has an extensive library of first-party SNES games to choose from, while the third-party releases are bountiful as well.
Now, about bringing the Virtual Console to the Nintendo Switch…
