Starcraft gets patched, now available for free
There’s no doubting that Starcraft is one of the most iconic gaming releases of all time. But now, after a sequel and several expansions over the years, Activision-Blizzard has decided to make the original release available for free.
The move came as a result of the game’s first patch in years, making both Starcraft and the Brood War expansion available for free, Activision-Blizzard quietly announced.
Otherwise, the patch also brings a host of fixes and additions to the game, including an Observer mode, a Popular Maps function, replay autosaving, improved anti-cheat capabilities and more.
The switch to free play also comes ahead of the looming release of Starcraft Remastered, bringing updated visuals, widescreen support and gameplay tweaks to the table.
The free version of Starcraft can be downloaded here for PC or Mac.
