Sony reveals list of phones to get Android Oreo
Last year saw LG first out of the gate with Android Nougat, but it looks like Sony might just get a head-start with Android Oreo.
The company will preinstall the update on its new XZ1 and XZ1 Compact phones, set to launch internationally this month and in South Africa next month (well, not the Compact). But the Japanese firm has also revealed its list of older devices that will be getting Oreo.
“We will make Android 8.0, Oreo available for: Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra, Xperia Touch and Xperia XA1 Plus,” the company wrote on its blog.
In other words, it looks like the Xperia Z5 series, Z4 Tablet, Xperia XA and XA Ultra won’t be jumping on the Oreo bandwagon. Here’s hoping the aforementioned list is only a start, rather than absolutely final.
The news also comes as Google begins the rollout of Oreo for the Pixel, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.
