Earlier this week, we saw a purported list of original Xbox games coming to Xbox One. Now, Microsoft has made it official and revealed some interesting perks as part of the project.

Starting today, original Xbox games will be hitting the current-generation console, the Redmond company explained. But in a rather cool move, Microsoft is upping the resolution for each title, claiming a four-fold increase in pixels on Xbox One and a sixteen-fold increase on Xbox One X.

“The 13 Original Xbox games releasing tomorrow will look better on the Xbox One family of devices, taking advantage of the power of Xbox One with up to 4X the pixel count on Xbox One and Xbox One S, and up to 16X the pixel count on Xbox One X.”

In fact, an exclusive IGN article reveals that all the games will be running at 1080p on Xbox One “with higher and/or smoother framerates”.

Microsoft clarified that you can play your physical copies on the console or purchase digital copies on the Xbox Store.

Interestingly enough, Black is also on the list of backwards-compatible games (joining the aforementioned leaked list), while Microsoft adds that Xbox Game Pass members will get access to Ninja Gaiden Black as well.

Own original Xbox games? Well, you might want to sift through the collection again

“We expect to release another curated list of Original Xbox classics in Spring 2018, so stayed tuned for more,” the company continued.

Meanwhile, those who preordered the Xbox One X will also be capable of running “select” Xbox 360 games at a higher resolution (a nine-fold increase in pixel count). For now, the “select” games are Oblivion, Assassin’s Creed, Fallout 3 and Halo 3. The improvements don’t stop there, as IGN revealed that anisotropic filtering and 10-bit colour depth would be coming to these titles on Xbox One X.
