Not even Microsoft execs care about Windows 10 Mobile anymore

In case the lack of a flagship since 2015 wasn’t a clue, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has come out and effectively confirmed that Windows 10 Mobile is dead.

Well, he didn’t quite use the term “dead”. But it’s certainly in a coma, if anything.

The Microsoft executive was responding to a Twitter user’s query, wondering whether it was time to leave Windows 10 Mobile.

“Depends who you are. Many companies still deploy to their employees and we will support them!” Belfiore says in a two part tweet. “As an individual end-user, I switched platforms for the app/hw diversity. We will support those users too! Choose what’s best 4 u.”

The former Windows Phone honcho adds that crafting new features and hardware is no longer a focus. So don’t expect new flagship devices any time soon — if at all.

Belfiore adds that Microsoft tried “VERY HARD” to incentivise developers, even writing apps for them, in a bid to bring more apps to Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile.

The tweets come a short time after Microsoft founder Bill Gates revealed that he switched to an Android device “with a lot of Microsoft software”.

So, if Microsoft’s executives have given up on the platform, maybe it’s time to switch. And we’ve got a great list of budget picks worth checking out.
