Watch Huawei Mate 10 live-stream here at 1pm
We all know that Huawei is planning to launch the Mate 10 in Munich today, the hype train having gone into effect months ago.
We’re expecting a phablet with a “FullView Display”, tiny bezels, 4000mAh battery (or better) and a dual-camera setup on the back, for starters. We’re also expecting two variants, in the form of a standard and Pro model — don’t be surprised if a Porsche variant and mid-range Mate 10 Lite are also revealed.
Of course, the company has already revealed the Kirin 970 chip which will power the Mate 10. And we’ve got loads of details regarding the processor, featuring a similar octacore layout to the Kirin 960 in the Mate 9 and P10. However, Huawei has also slapped AI silicon on the new chip, calling it a Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
The Mate 10 is expected to pack advanced AI smarts and converged computing functionality
In addition to faster image recognition, more advanced offline tasks and better system management, Huawei told Gearburn that it will announce third-party app partnerships for the NPU at the launch.
Two other features we’ve learnt about include water-resistance for the first time in a Huawei flagship and a DeX-style feature for desktop computing.
The event kicks off at 1pm SAST/2pm CEST, so check out the embedded streaming window below.
