Nokia 2 hits South Africa for under R2000 via Vodacom
A few weeks ago we saw the Nokia 2 being announced globally, featuring a solid design and a massive battery. Back then, HMD Global confirmed that the phone would be available in South Africa.
Now, the company has announced that South African sales have indeed kicked off, being available exclusively on the Vodacom network.
As for a price? You’re looking at R1699, making it the cheapest Nokia-branded smartphone in the market.
Your cash gets you a low-end Snapdragon 212 quad-core chip, 1GB of RAM, 5-inch 720p display and 8GB of expandable storage (via hybrid SIM slot). But the phone’s major selling point is the large 4100mAh battery, which should translate to two days of everyday usage.

HMD has also slapped an 8MP main camera and 5MP front-facing shooter on the Nokia 2.
“Fans associate Nokia phones with great battery life and we are proud to take this to a whole new level with the Nokia 2. We don’t think you should have to limit your smartphone use when out and about,” said Shaun Durandt, HMD’s general manager for Southern Africa, in a statement.
“That’s why we’ve created a smartphone that keeps going when others can’t. Every part of the Nokia 2 — from the display to system design — has been crafted to draw as little power as possible from the huge battery.”
