Now Xiaomi has copied Apple’s gestures

Xiaomi gained a reputation in its early years as a company that heavily copied Apple, from hardware design and product names to the look of its MIUI Android skin.

The company has come a long way since then, revealing innovative wares like the Mi Mix range. But the most recent addition to the MIUI skin is a blatant copy of Apple’s iPhone X gestures.

Called Full Display Gestures and coming to the MIUI 9 beta, it offers virtually identical gestures to the OLED iPhone.

“In the newly introduced full display gestures, if you want to go back to the Home screen, you can swipe from the bottom of the screen to the top of it. Swipe from the bottom of the screen and then stop for a second, you will find that Recents can be activated. And if you’d like to return to the previous page, all you have to do is swipe from the left or right of the screen to the middle of it,” reads an entry on the forum.

Xiaomi has copied Apple with swipe gestures, but Apple did indeed copy it from Nokia

To be fair, Apple’s gestures are in turn, heavily inspired by Nokia’s MeeGo platform on the Nokia N9.

The N9, launched back in 2011, innovated the purely gesture-driven interface, with Sailfish OS and BlackBerry 10 following in the N9’s footsteps at first.

Still, those with full-screen Xiaomi phones, like the Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2 and new Redmi 5, will appreciate the UI options. We just wish Xiaomi didn’t wait for Apple to do it before steaming ahead.
