MIUI 9 hits devices this week, bringing a few new features
Whether you like it or detest it, you can’t argue that Xiaomi doesn’t pay some attention to MIUI. The Android skin’s features are heavily driven by the community, so Xiaomi owners will be glad to hear that the stable version of MIUI 9 (i.e. not a beta) launches this week.
The news (spotted by TechRadar) was delivered by Xiaomi global vice-president and Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain on Twitter.
As promised, #MIUI9 is now available for all devices!@XiaomiIndia is committed to bringing the best and the latest OS to all our Mi Fans. That’s why we’re even updating the phones that were launched almost 4 years ago – Mi 3 and Redmi 1S.

As the tweet image shows, MIUI 9 is coming to everything from the Redmi 2 and Redmi 4A to the Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 3 and Mi Mix 2. But what should you expect in terms of features?
We’ve already covered the BlackBerry/MeeGo/WebOS/Apple inspired gestures for full-screen phones. But MIUI 9 brings a host of optimisations (such as a new file system, automated cache clearing, dynamic resource allocation, faster app launching) as well as a revised notification menu, a Today View-style app vault, a notification filter (mark specific notifications as unimportant), object removal in photos and photo stickers (of course).
