Hisense launches its 100-inch Laser TV in South Africa
Chinese technology firm Hisense on Thursday launched its 4K Laser TV to the South African audience.
The TV, which is effectively a short-throw projector mated to an anti-reflective screen, also includes a JBL sound system and available in sizes of up to 100-inches (or around 2.7 metres squared).
It’s the fifth generation laser TV, according to the company, a technology which it has been developing since 2007.
For those who need such a large screen, Hisense is talking up the device’s wide colour gamut (thanks to its Texas Instruments-made Dual Colour Laser Source), and 4K upscaling tech, which you’re going to need with content that’s any less than 1080p.

And yes, keeping up with today’s trends, there’s also a built in OS, dubbed VIDAA U, which allows users to run apps like Netflix and YouTube. Hisense also claims that Showmax has an app for the platform too.
As for the price? It’s not coming in cheap, but what would you expect for a TV screen that’s larger than a continent?
It’ll retail for R150 000, which isn’t bad considering that 75-inch TV sets from the likes of Samsung are just shy of this price point.
