Google Assistant is coming to these smart devices in the near future
Google Assistant is heading to a slew of smart devices in the near future, the company announced at CES 2019.
Although some of these products may not head to South Africa, it’s interesting to note that Google’s willing to shove its virtual smart voice assistant into virtually anything.
Lenovo SmartClock
This touchscreen device lets users “see alarm suggestions based on your daily routines, gently wake up with auto-adjusting screen brightness and animations, and control your smart home devices”, according to Google.
The 4 inch clock will go on sale within the next few months for US$79.
Whirlpool KitchenAid SmartDisplay
The water resistant KitchenAid SmartDisplay features a 10 inch water resistant touchscreen and lets users read recipes from cooking service Yummly. Google also notes that users can control other smart home devices from the KitchenAid itself, turning it into a hub of sorts.
Pricing and availability info is yet to be announced.
Sonos One and Sonos Beam speakers
The Sonos One and Sonos Beam speakers won’t simply play music but will allow users to control tracks, podcasts and radio stations without the need of a smartphone.
Smart TVs
Google is also partnering up with a number of Smart TV brands such as Philips, Hisense, JVC and Sony, just to name a few.
“You’ll be able to use your voice to turn on the TV, change volume and channels, and switch between inputs,” says Google.
Car accessories
The Anker Roav Bolt and JBL Link Drive will allow drivers to “use the Assistant hands-free, without having to unlock your phone,” Google explains.
Both devices plug into a car’s power socket and also simplifies the vehicle’s audio input and output streams.
According to the company, over 1600 brands use Google Assistant, and the number will continue to expand throughout 2019.
