The Xiaomi Mi 9 could be 2019’s most beautiful smartphone

The Xiaomi Mi 9 was only supposed to be unveiled next week, incidentally on the same day as Samsung’s Unpacked event.

But not to be outdone by its Korean rival, the Chinese brand’s SVP Wang Xiang posted a few teaser snaps to Twitter.

Long story short: the Xiaomi Mi 9 will be anything but boring visually.

There will seemingly be three cameras at the rear, with one on the far right clearly highlighted by a colourful ring. There is a flash present, so it’s not clear if this is simply a design cue or a piece of tech yet to be unveiled.

The triple array does sit on a notable camera bump though, and is mounted vertically on the left side, in similar vein to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Speaking of which, the two devices share a very similar blue gradient colour scheme.

Xiang does talk up the phone’s colour, suggesting that “nano-level laser engraving holographic technology” and a “dual layer nano coating” was used to create the shimmery effect.

But as for specs, you’ll have to wait until 20 February, it seems.
