MTN’s R249 smart feature phone is now available in South Africa
It took a few months, but MTN on Monday finally announced that its KaiOS smart feature phone, the MTN Smart S, is now available in South Africa.
The device won’t run Android or any variant, instead it’s powered by KaiOS, an OS that has its own bespoke app store for low-cost devices.
The carrier notes that the Smart S will support WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and Google Assistant.
As for internals, the phone will feature a Unisoc 7731E dual-core chipset, 256MB of RAM, 512MB of internal storage, and a 2000mAh battery. Additionally, the phone will also sport a front and rear camera.
It also features a colour screen with a T9 physical keyboard layout.
MTN’s pricing the device at R249, while the network has also bundled a “monthly allocation of 100 MB of data valid for 30 days, for first six months and 1GB of WhatsApp bundles, valid for 20 days, for first six months.”
