Sony’s a7R IV packs a 61MP sensor for $3500
Sony’s most popular camera range, the Alpha System, got a brand new 61MP upgrade in the form of the a7R IV on Tuesday.
That’s right, 61 megapixels.
The Sony a7R IV is, in fact, the first 35mm full-frame camera of its kind with back-illuminated CMOS sensor and that 61MP resolution.
The sensor provides “effective noise reduction”, which results in higher quality images with less grain.
“The new Alpha 7R IV combines medium format-level image quality with high-speed shooting, extremely fast focusing and an extensive list of upgrades to design,” Sony’s Neal Manowitz said in a press release.
The camera also features a 15-stop dynamic range, 567 phase-detection auto focus points and an OLED electronic view finder.
Unsurprisingly, the device is capable of 4K video recording and includes several wireless connectivity options, including Wi-Fi.
“Additional enhancements to the body design include an improved grip and button layout for improved control with compact, lightweight body,” Sony also noted.
The Sony a7R IV, which supports microphone input and can hold two SD cards, will be available this September in North America.
It will sell for $3 500.
