Next Xiaomi phone set for SA? Redmi 4A listed by retailer
The latest Xiaomi smartphone to hit South Africa might just be the Redmi 4A, it would appear.
According to a listing on Incredible Connection’s website, the metal-clad handset will be sold for R1999 — putting it just R1300 below the Redmi 3’s price tag.
The Redmi 4A looks like a solid follow-up to the R1800 Redmi 2 rather than a successor to the Redmi 3 — at least judging by the price and specifications.
The handset packs a very budget-minded quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset, 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 720p display, 16GB expandable storage (via hybrid SIM slot) and a decent 3120mAh battery.

In the camera department, you’re looking at a 13MP f/2.2 main camera and a 5MP selfie snapper.
By contrast, the R3300 Redmi 3 packs a better (but still mid-range) octacore Snapdragon 616 chip (eight A53 cores), fingerprint scanner, 5-inch 720p display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage and a massive 4100mAh battery.
Nevertheless, the larger battery and Snapdragon 425 chip represent modest but welcome upgrades over the Redmi 2 Pro. So keep the Redmi 4A in mind if you’re looking for a decent smartphone at R2000.
