Samsung Galaxy S8 has ‘best performing smartphone display’
Samsung always excels on the display front when it comes to their high-end smartphones, whether it’s the Note 4 and its 2560×1440 display or the Note 7’s HDR-capable screen.
Now, it appears that the Galaxy S8 has set a new standard, with screen analysis website DisplayMate saying it has the “best performing smartphone display”. The website put the phone’s screen through a series of tests before arriving at an A+ rating.
Samsung’s latest smartphones (S8 and S8+) feature 2960×1440 AMOLED screens with an 18.5:9 screen ratio. Of course, we also see a high screen/body ratio, support for HDR and dual-curved screens.
“It has many major and important state-of-the-art display performance enhancements, features and functions, with mobile OLED display technology now advancing faster than ever,” DisplayMate wrote. “The Galaxy S8 is the most innovative and high performance Smartphone display that we have ever lab tested.”
Basing your smartphone purchase solely on the screen? You’ll want to keep the Galaxy S8 in mind
The website noted that the S8 display either matched or exceeded a number of records. These include largest native colour gamut (113% DCI-P3, 142% sRGB/Rec. 709), highest peak brightness (1020 nits), highest contrast rating in ambient light and lowest screen reflectance.
Weirdly enough, DisplayMate also claimed a record for “Highest Screen Resolution 3K”, when the Xperia Z5 Premium and upcoming XZ Premium pack 4K displays.
