Xiaomi Mi Mix cloning continues with Elephone S8
Earlier this week, we reported on three Chinese smartphone brands who were unabashedly cloning the Xiaomi Mi Mix design. Now, we’ve got another phone to add to the list, in the form of the Elephone S8 (spotted by Gizmochina).
Elephone is another brand going under the radar, pushing out well-priced, MediaTek-equipped phones that seem like great value for money. So, pretty much every third tier manufacturer in China then.
In any event, the Elephone S8 offers a near-identical design to Xiaomi’s innovative phone, featuring a sliver of bezels on three sides, and a prominent chin. Heck, there’s a chin-mounted selfie camera as well, being a 13MP camera.
It’s refreshing to see brands copying Xiaomi for once, instead of Apple
The chin also has a fingerprint scanner, deviating from the Mi Mix design here, which has a rear-mounted scanner.
Other specs include a decacore MediaTek Helio X20 chip, 4GB RAM, 128GB of storage, a 6-inch full HD screen and a 21MP main camera.
The Elephone S8 joins devices from the likes of Doogee and Bluboo in blatantly copying Xiaomi’s smartphone. Check out the full rundown here.
