Walmart flexes Onn the tech industry with a new affordable tablet

US retailer Walmart just announced a silent upgrade of its Onn tablet line to keep kids and adult kids occupied during the pandemic.

Yes, the refreshed Onn Tablet Pro still has a terrible name but looks a cracking deal on paper.

Buyers get a 1920×1080 10.1-inch display, 32GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and an octa-core chipset. There’s even a USB-C port and it also runs Android 10 out-of-the-box, because it’s clearly not 2018 anymore.

But here’s the real kicker. It costs just $129, or directly converted into our feeble currency R2365 (R18.34/dollar). There’s also an 8-inch version selling for just $99 (R1815).

It’s not likely South Africa will see the device in stores, but there is a tiny chance. Walmart just so happens to own Game and Makro (via Massmart).

Walmart didn’t offer the previous version of the (seemingly much worse) Onn tablet locally though, so you shouldn’t hold your breath.

It’s a pity, as the Onn Tablet Pro’s local introduction would surely shake up the stagnant local tablet market for the better.
