Nintendo adds Bluetooth audio output connectivity to Switch

Nintendo has announced Switch gamers can now pair Bluetooth devices to their consoles for audio output thanks to a software update.

In a tweet published on 15 September, the company said players could now play games while listening through audio devices such as wireless headphones.

Up until now, Switch owners needed a Bluetooth adapter to use wireless headphones with the console.

While the console comes equipped with a 3.5mm audio port, there is no port on the detachable controllers or the console’s Pro Controller.

Bluetooth audio on the Nintendo Switch

Switch owners can find the Bluetooth Audio option in the system settings of their consoles.

According to the Nintendo support webpage, gamers can pair up to two wireless controllers while using Bluetooth audio. They cannot pair more until they disconnect the Bluetooth audio device.

The console will disconnect Bluetooth audio when local communication is enabled. For example, when a player opens a local wireless multiplayer game.

While gamers can only pair one Bluetooth audio device at a time, they can save up to ten devices on the system.

Once connected, they can change the volume on their audio device

The console’s Bluetooth system does not support microphones.

Nintendo also notes players may experience latency in audio depending on the Bluetooth-enabled device they use.
