Huawei Ascend P1 launches May in Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong
The Huawei Ascend P1 launches this May according to a press-release from China’s largest mobile phone maker.
It’s a super-styling phone to boot. The Ascend P1 has a dual-core 1.5Ghz CPU, a 4.3-inch screen, an 8-megapixel camera and surprisingly, very decent sound with the Dolby Mobile 3.0 speaker system. The PR calls it a “home theatre experience in the palm of your hands”. We’d like to call it a breath of fresh air.
The Ascend P1 plans to launch first in Australia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Latin America and Europe follow suite with a launch in June.
Let’s pick the press release apart, care of Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei Device.
“The global availability of the Ascend P1, which combines smart features and a sexy design, represents a significant milestone for Huawei Device,” meaning that Huawei has finally woken up to the fact that if your phone doesn’t look like an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S II, it won’t sell.
“We are sending strong signals of our intention to transform into a consumer-facing brand and extend our market leadership globally by strengthening our range of flagship products,” or in English, “Please buy our phones over Apple’s or Samsung’s, we promise you it won’t fall apart like our US$80 crap-tastic entry phones.”
“We are also expanding our sales and distribution channels to move beyond a focus on operators,” or “We’re tired of pandering to the telecoms, the little people demand our attention.”
Anyway, look forward to the brand-spanking new Huawei Ascend P1, coming soon.
