Sharp’s Pantone 5 is a multicoloured, ICS, radiation detecting smartphone

Colour us impressed. Android 4.0 phones are spewing out into the streets with nary a care. Sharp’s Pantone 5 is not a carefree ICS smartphone though. This one comes with the potentially live-saving ability to detect radiation.

Radiation levels between .005 and 9.99 μSv/h can be detected, of which 2.0 is the total amount we should exposed to all year long. A level of 9.99 μSv/h equates to the amount of radiation an passenger on a flight draws in. Anything over 5000, and it’s lights out.

But the Pantone 5 is about looks, not about scaring the bejesus out of its users. It’s a decent little model: It has a 4-megapixel camera, is available in a range of eight Pantone colours, has a VGA 0.3-megapixel front camera and a 854×480 resolution. Bonus points: It’ll be waterproof and dust-proof. Just the thing for those dusty, wet days? Anyway, order it here if you’re a native to Japan. We doubt it will make it’s way past the Asian market.
