Xbox One boosts CPU from 1.6 to 1.75Ghz: $499 price intact

Microsoft’s bumping up the specs of its upcoming console, the Xbox One, from a 1.6 to a 1.75Ghz CPU. Rejoice?

As reported by Geekwire, Xbox’s marketing office Yusef Mehdi says that while there is no release date for the Xbox One, the system is “really going to shine”, especially now that we’re getting a CPU upgrade for free. “This will be the biggest launch we’ve ever done by a wide margin in terms of units shipped at launch.” says Mehdi. His full statement is below:

We’ll announce a launch date shortly. We recently just went into full production, so we’re now producing en masse Xbox One consoles. We’ve had real good progress on the system. In fact, we just updated the CPU performance to 1.75 GHz on top of the graphics performance improvement, so the system is really going to shine [and] the games look pretty incredible. We’ve built more [systems] than we’ve ever built for an Xbox launch.”

It’s also an attempt to one-up Sony, which has its own x86-64 AMD “Jaguar” 8 core-CPU that’s said to be clocked at 1.6Ghz. It’s best to ignore these specs though, as it’ll be up to the game developers to create memorable experiences with skill, not from overpowered hardware.
