Xbox One November update brings achievement art backgrounds, TV trending lists
The wizards behind Microsoft‘s ever-improving Xbox One console have previewed the latest update due for release next month, and it seems that there’s a larger focus on TV, personalisation and Store improvements.
So what can users expect then?
UI customisations
According to Xbox’s Major Nelson, users will finally be able to customise their background with a “custom color or achievement art”. More interesting customisations are promised later down the road — thank goodness. This was the most requested feature according to Xbox One’s complaint’s box.
Secondly, gamers can also now share bios and location on their profiles, and display a carousel of favourite gaming clips. This is pretty cool.
A more social television experience
On the TV front, users can get a glimpse of trending Live- and Xbox TV shows, according to Twitter. Users will also be able to tweet along easily to the show thanks to a “Tweets in MiniGuide” section. The former feature will only be available in the US, UK and Canada for now.
Speaking of the MiniGuide, new favourites and recent sections have been included. It’s incredible to think that this wasn’t thought of before. And did I mention that it’s now voice activated now too? Whisper “Xbox Select – MiniGuide” into the console’s ear — even while watching live TV — and the feature will appear rather smoothly.
Everything else
To top it off, Major Nelson’s quoting improvements to the Store itself and Xbox SmartGlass.
The Store receives a much needed speed and UX boost, while the SmartGlass now lets users browse other users’ activities within the system, as well as gander through Xbox Gold titles. Profile showcase allows gamers to bring some degree of narcissism to their profiles, which is also really great.
