AG Mobile has announced its first phone co-developed with South African hip-hop artist, Cassper Nyovest.
Dubbed the AG#HASHTAG, the company notes that the phone isn’t simply an ode to Nyovest.
“The AG#Hashtag isn’t just inspired by Cassper – he actually played an integral part in the development, design and specifications of the device over the nine months it took to bring it to market. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created – in fact it now stands as AG Mobile’s flagship device,” AG Mobile CEO Anthony Goodman explains.
The phone itself aims to be AG Mobile’s new mid-range contender, effectively slotting below the AG Ghost in the pecking order.
Beyond the “funky red” exterior, the AG#HASHTAG boasts a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There’s a microSD card slot too for expansion, and support for LTE as well.
On the surface though, there’s a 5.5-inch screen up front, with 1280×720 pixels. Additionally, AG Mobile and Nyovest have included a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front selfie snapper.
A 2500mAh battery rounds out the package.
“To put it simply, the #Hashtag is dope! It was designed for someone who loves music, being in the mix, and socialising with their crew,” Nyovest notes.
“Basically it has everything I would want in a phone so I’m giving a shout out to all my fans to check out the #Hashtag’s quality features and design, and then to change over to AG. They have my word that they’ll be getting great value!”
The device is available through MTN at R229p/m on contract, or R3499 once off. The phone is currently available for pre-order until 10 May.
