Steam now accepts Bitcoin as payment method
You’ll now be able to purchase all of your Steam Store sales goodies with Bitcoin. Yes, that digital currency that no one quite understands will net you some excellent titles.
Announced on Bitpay’s website, the company has partnered with Steam in order to provide this payment functionality. Apparently, Valve reached out to Bitpay in order to implement this new feature.
Bitcoin is being implemented in order to accommodate users in emerging markets, such as India and Brazil, due to the lack of credit cards in those regions.
Steam also offers support for credit cards, PayPal, WebMoney, Moneybookers, and a range of other payment options.
Bitcoin has been gaining traction in recent years with the likes of international money transfers, a payment method on Bid or Buy, funding solar power for a school, and former drug-purchasing website Silkroad amongst other uses.
