Apple Watch Series 2 debuts with swimmers in mind

Amid the James Corden tomfoolery and Nintendo news, Apple also unveiled the new edition of the Apple Watch.
The smartwatch, which has pushed the Cupertino company to second in the world smartphone sales stakes, is now swim-proof — waterproof for up to 50 metres. Additionally, the company’s wearable now boasts a nifty little speaker water ejection system, which keeps fluid out of the Apple Watch Series 2’s system.
Apple Watch Series 2 now boasts a swanky ceramic edition
Speaking of the system, the Apple Watch now boasts a dual-core CPU which is 50% faster than the older Apple S1 SoC, and a new GPU which can run some apps at 60 frames per second.
It also now boasts a built-in GPS, which allows apps that require a location system to run natively on the device.

Beyond internals, the Apple Watch hasn’t changed much at all aesthetically. The Crown is still on the watch’s side, while the large sausage button remains too. The Apple Watch Series 2 does have a new ceramic finish though, which is four times harder than stainless steel.
Apple Watch and Nike partner
Apple’s hoping that the Series 2 will appeal to runners, and it has partnered with Nike. And yes, there’s an Apple Watch Nike+ edition too. This edition blends with Nike’s Run Club, and encourages users to go a little further each day.
It’s an interesting shot at the likes of Garmin and TomTom among others.
The watch will start at US$369 (for the Series 2 and Nike+ Edition). Also, the old Apple Watch will be upgraded to the new Apple S2 SoC, and will start at US$269.
The Watches can be pre-ordered from 9 September, while the Nike+ Edition will be available late October 2016.
There’s no word on South African pricing or availability just yet.
