We’ve known about the launch month for a while now, but the LG V20 has finally received a 7 November release date in South Africa.

The new smartphone will be coming as a Vodacom-exclusive device, LG Mobile South Africa announced. So what can you expect from the handset then?

Well, for starters, it’s the first non-Google phone to feature Android 7.0 Nougat. But otherwise, it’s packing a powerful Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

The phone also packs a similar camera setup to the LG G5, so that means a 16MP f/1.8 main camera accompanied by a 8MP f/2.4 wide-angle shooter. Rounding out the camera department is a 5MP selfie shooter.

The LG V20 differs from other flagships by packing in some impressive audio technology on paper

Unarguably the V20’s biggest selling point is the audio suite though. The device packs quad-DAC hardware for superior audio playback, while also aiming to deliver a high-end audio recording experience thanks to three high-quality microphones and other additions.

“LG V20 owners can record Hi-Fi videos and manually control the settings for perfect audio quality using options such as Low Cut Filter (LCF) that removes unwanted background noise and Limiter (LMT) that sets recording distance,” LG explained at the time of the phone’s release.

“The LCF reduces background noise while the LMT zeroes in on voices the user wants to record. The V20 also captures audio using 24-bit 48 kHz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM), the same format used in professional video equipment.”

As for a local prepaid price? LG Mobile SA has confirmed a R10 999 price tag. Not bad at all compared to flagship devices from Samsung and Apple, it must be said.
