Cyclists vs truck: see a truck’s blind spots through the eyes of a driver [video]
As South Africa is still reeling and struggling to come to terms with the Fields Hill and Moloto Road crashes, a video has emerged showing the blindspots the driver of a truck has to navigate around.
The video specifically shows a group of cyclists, in their lane, between an articulated truck and the pavement. The truck is making a left hand turn, over the cycling lane. If the truck was to go ahead, it could easily crush the cyclists in its path.
Do not think this is an attack on cyclists. The cyclists in the video are within a cycling lane that exists across Europe and the United Kingdom. Added to that, the space the group of cyclists take up could easily be filled by an average sized car.
The key lesson here: Do not assume a truck driver can see you. Rather move ahead of or behind the truck.
