2015 could bring an AWD Tesla Model S
The Tesla Model S is undoubtedly one of the best-looking and well-rounded electric cars on the market right now. While it’s pretty damn good as it is, the addition of all wheel drive probably couldn’t hurt things.
Well, it looks like that may well be a reality come next year. At a recent town hall–style meeting between Tesla chief Elon Musk, Tesla head of technology JB Straubel, and an audience of Tesla owners in Norway, reports Car and Driver Musk hinted that it could be a reality in the coming months.
“There’s potential for an all-wheel-drive Model S but it’s not going to be for the next several months . . . it’s going to be close to when [the Model X crossover] happens,†he said.
An all wheel drive Model S could be a massive boost to Tesla, especially in Northern and Western Europe where it could compete on the same level as AWD models marques like Audi, BMW and Mercedes.
Autocar meanwhile reports that the updated Model S could also come with larger battery packs, which would help with extending its range.
