Mini’s Superleggera-designed roadster is a work of aluminium art
The Mini Superleggera Vision is what happens when a German-owned marque meshes Italian style and flair with legendary British heritage. Frankly, this Mini concept looks nothing like any Mini that has preceded it, and that’s actually a good thing.
The topless two-seater roadster is bathed by gentle lines and elegant trim all while somehow retaining the essence of the Mini badge it wears. Designed by Italian firm, Touring Superleggera (responsible for the gorgeous Alfa Romeo C52 Disco Volante) the Vision concept is as kind to the environment as it is to your eyes.
BMW reveals that the car is built exclusively of handcrafted aluminium and carbon fibre, making it light and nimble. The borderless windscreen adds to the classic yet modern theme of the vehicle. In addition, the simple interior is dominated by an aluminium dashboard, flanked by tan leather trim and bucket seats. A modern touchscreen interface is fitted to the centre, resembling a futuristic iDrive system that BMW may well fit to future Minis.
Perhaps the best design feature though without being excessive, is the Union Jack-style taillights. They’re brilliantly clever yet look absolutely fit for a James Bond sequel, especially with the shark fin-like boot lid between them.
Although the car is only a concept, it would undoubtedly sell like hotcakes if BMW decided to produce them. No information is given on drive-train or internals, but with a car that looks as good as this, who cares if its fast?
