The new Mercedes AMG-GT is worth a double take, or three [Gallery]

Mercedes has finally unveiled its AMG-GT to the world, and what a glorious unveiling it is. Previously we were disappointed, that the SLS — possibly the most gorgeous Mercedes for quite sometime — was facing deletion, but to be fair, the car that replaces it is an absolute work of sheet metal and petrol-burning art.

The car, as expected, keeps the outgoing SLS’ dimensions, but adds a certain degree of aggression that it didn’t embody. Raked lines, tapered headlights and a Porsche 911-like rear end melts into a sleek and wholesome viewing experience. It’s very clean for a “race car” with double wishbone suspension.

It also didn’t quite have the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, pushing out a healthy 510-horsepower, and propelling the car to a 310km/h top speed. Mercedes claims a 0-100km/h time of around 3.8 seconds, so good looks and performance goes hand in hand with this beauty.

The car will be offered in two variants — the more powerful “GT S” and the gentleman’s “GT” version, pumping out 60 less horsepower than it’s more savage brother.
