Ariel introduces completely bonkers Atom 3S

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been hankering to get your hands on an Ariel Atom ever since you first laid eyes on video footage of it tearing around a track (most likely the time it tried to rip Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s face off).

Nothing in the company’s evolution has changed that and, if the brand new Atom 3S its working on is anything to go by, that’s not going to change any time soon either.

A specced out version of the third generation atom, the 3S features a turbo-charged 2.4l Honda engine capable of pushing out 365 horsepower. As Autoblog points out, that means the only Atom more powerful than it is the ridiculous 500bhp V8 version.

In addition, there’s a five-stage traction control system (which can be controlled from within the cockpit), F1-style pushrod suspension thanks to adjustable dampers, and Alcon four-piston brake calipers.

While the 3S is capable of pushing out the kind of speeds more usually associated with Formula Ford cars, it’s probably a little more comfortable given that it has a full windscreen. On the tech front, there’s an LCD cockpit display and, well, not much else.

Still, you’d be hard-pressed to use an on-board entertainment system or concierge service when banking this monster at top speed.
