Porsche’s 911 Carrera GTS splices racing pedigree with saucy styling [Gallery]

Porsche’s 911 hasn’t really changed much over the years, has it? Featuring the selfsame teardrop eyes and stubby raked rear, it’s unmistakable standing alongside, say, a Mercedes SL. Telling the different versions apart though is the real skill, and Porsche has now released yet another to confuse a few more prospective buyers.

The 911 Carrera GTS is a car for those too scared of the thoroughbred 911 GT3 and its enormous rear wing, but not scared enough of the 911 S. Falling between the two extremes, naturally, it boasts the best of both worlds. It’s super fast and more practical than a GT3, and it’s available in cabriolet form — perfect for ventures along the seaside in summer.

With its adaptable dampers, the car stiffens when furrowing a mountain pass, while conversely making trips through the pot-holed city less jarring. On the power front, the driver gains control of 430-horsepower from the six-cylinder boxer motor, with top speeds in excess of 300km/h.

But for us, it’s perhaps the prettiest 911 released since the original Ducktail. Don’t believe us? Have a gander through the gallery below and let us know what you think in the comments:
