Volvo’s Lounge Console will change the way billionaires view car interiors [Gallery]
Ever sat in the back of your luxury SUV and bemoaned the fact that most of your view is taken up by the front passenger seat? No? Us neither, but Volvo clearly thinks it’s a problem that needed solving.
That’s why it launched the Lounge Console concept for the XC90 Excellence at the Shanghai International Auto Show earlier this week.
Aimed at the very top end of the market, the concept looks more or less as if Volvo’s transplanted the first class seat from an airline cabin and stuck in a car.
Among the concept layout’s features is a large work table which opens to reveal an illuminated vanity mirror, including a storage tray for jewelry and personal accessories or make-up. The table also rotates 90 degrees and simultaneously powers forward to display a large 17†media screen for a full in-car theater experience. Below the cushioned leg rest is an additional area for shoes.
If you’re the kind of person for whom security is that much of an issue, Volvo has also included a lockable storage box.
Perhaps the biggest bonus though is removing the feeling that you’ve been confined to the child’s seat in a car that you’ve paid frighteningly large sums of money for.
