Merc teams up with Lufthansa for high tech short-haul business class cabin
If you’re wealthy enough to afford the finer things in life, but not wealthy enough to own your own luxury jet, then you might find this concept from Mercedes-Benz and Lufthansa pretty intriguing.
The two companies have come together to develop a design for a luxury cabin for short and medium-haul flights, which replaces the ceiling, wall and floor with what the two companies say is a “dynamic, spiral layout”. Rather than being separate elements, the companies claim that they flow into each other, as well as the furniture of the cabin.
According to a press release from Merc, the interior of the cabin is “organic and homogeneous like a DNA helix”. As well as the floor
The cabin windows meanwhile are concealed by so-called black panels. These panels are apparently inspired by the screen design in the Mercedes‑Benz S-Class, and are designed to appear to float in front of the window like a light corona.
Merc’s Magic Sky technology allows the panels to be dimmed electrically from black to transparent. The German luxury automaker also says that displays and touch screens for entertainment and information can easily be integrated into the black panels.
All we know is that we’d be a lot more keen on flying if we could always do it like this.
