Watch the new Focus RS in crazy oversteer mode
Judging by the level of anticipation around its release, the Focus RS is going to be one hell of a hot hatch. Ford provided further proof that this might be the case with a video showing the RS blasting around its Lommel Proving Ground.
The video features plenty of oversteer, along with some more oversteer, all set to the tune of an exhaust that sounds like it wouldn’t be out of place in the background of an epic metal track.
Ford’s also confirmed that the Focus RS will be equipped with a special 2.3-litre EcoBoost power unit engineered to deliver 350 PS.
Complementing that powertrain will be a a number of technologies new to the RS marque including selectable Drive Modes — including an industry-first Drift Mode that allows controlled oversteer drifts — and Launch Control. Maximum torque of 440 Nm is delivered between 2 000 and 4 500 rpm, with 470 Nm available for up to 15 seconds on transient overboost during hard acceleration.
The RS, will be tearing around the Goodwood Festival of Speed, currently underway in the UK. There, Ken Block — Gymkhana and World Rallycross star — will tackle the famous Hillclimb at the wheel of a prototype car.
According to Ford, it will be available for European customers from early 2016.
