BMW introduces the world to new M2 Coupe

BMW has unveiled the new M2 Coupe, and if the stats are anything to go by, it may well be the most exciting car in BMW’s current line up.

The M2 comes with a six-cylinder in-line engine, rear-wheel-drive, and a lightweight aluminium M Sport suspension.

Styling-wise, the M2 is very clearly a BMW, but it’s still one of the boldest designs to come out of the German marque for some time now. According to BMW, “the new M2 Coupe makes no secret of its extraordinary performance potential”.

That three litre six-cylinder engine reportedly works in sync with the M TwinPower Turbo technology to develop 272 kW at 6 500 rpm. Acceleration-wise, the M2 Coupe is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

There’s also plenty of tech in this Bimmer, with ConnectedDrive getting a number of updates, including better app integration. The GoPro app, for instance, now allows you to record fast laps of the track with a dashboard-mounted action camera, using the iDrive Controller and Control Display. Meanwhile, the driver’s individual style at the wheel can be analysed as desired with the M Laptimer app. Information on speeds and braking points can then be shared via email or Facebook.
