Apple Car being tested in secret Berlin lab – report

Apple Car Play

Thanks to numerous reports, we know that Apple is hard at work on its first car, but we now have more details on the project courtesy of a German website.

According to Faz.net, the Cupertino company has a small, secretive lab in the middle of Berlin which is devoted to the automotive project.

The report further claims that there are between 15 and 20 people working at the lab, with backgrounds in engineering, sales, software and hardware.

It also adds that the Apple Car is expected to be released in 2019 or 2020.

In a rather interesting twist, the report mentions that Apple has sought the help of automaker Magna Steyr, which is one of the largest “contract automakers” in the industry.

Magna Steyr has no shortage of experience in the industry, currently manufacturing various Mini Cooper models, for one.

Faz adds that the Apple vehicle will be manufactured in Austria.

It wouldn’t be the first confirmation of a humungous tech firm dabbling in the car industry either.

Google has been testing its self-driving cars for a while now, with tests underway in California, Texas, Washington state and Arizona.

Google’s fleet of vehicles include modified Lexus SUVs and all-new prototypes.

It’s unclear whether Apple’s secretive car will have self-driving capabilities, however.
