vw tiguan 2021 updated

Golfs might have a greater legacy, but Volkswagen’s most popular product is in fact the VW Tiguan SUV.

To ensure that it remains ahead in the global sales race, VW has revealed an updated version of the current second-generation Tiguan.

This new version features a shiny redesigned grille, framed by LED-pattern headlights and bold wheel options, which range up to 21-inches in size.

Around the rear, the new Tiguan also sports reshaped LED taillights.

Some of the most significant enhancements with this evolved Tiguan concern its cabin architecture and digitisation. The instrumentation binnacle is digital.

Meanwhile, overall infotainment functionality is powered by VW’s latest MIB 3 multimedia system. The system both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Those VW brand fans who also happen to be keen audiophiles will be thrilled with the 480-watt Harmon-Kardon sound system. Featuring no less than ten speakers, the system relays whichever media you stream throughout the Tiguan’s cabin.

Keeping your devices charged, are two high-capacity USB-C ports, whilst VW’s interior designers have simplified ergonomics, by radically reducing the number of physical buttons and dials.

Most media and ventilation functions are controlled from the steering wheel, which has touch-sensitive command surfaces.

Autonomous driving technology has a vital role in the new Tiguan. It’s capable of independent obstacle identification and braking at speeds of up to 200kph.

VW Tiguan in South Africa

Volkswagen has not confirmed the exact model line-up, but it is willing to commit to an early 2021 arrival for the Tiguan in South Africa.

For VW customers who desire a high-performance family vehicle, with gravel travel ability, there is very good news. VW will be launching the Tiguan R in South Africa towards the end of 2021.

This version of the new Tiguan is powered by a 235kW two-litre turbocharged engine, which also produces 420Nm of torque.

Those outputs are apportioned between all four wheels, via VW’s seven-speed DSG transmission.

Although VW has not released official performance figures for the Tiguan R, we do know that it will sound dramatic thanks to an Akrapovic exhaust system, sourced from Slovenia.
