Audi formally unveils S1 and S1 Sportback
We’ve been waiting for Audi to unveil its S1 hot hatch for a couple of weeks now and the car unveiled by the Ingelstadt company is pretty much what we were promised.
The premium models in the A1 range, the S1 and S1 sportback both feature 2.0l turbocharged engines capable of pushing out 170 kW (231 hp) and produces up to 370 Nm (272.90 lb-ft) of torque. Audi claims that this unit will push the S1 and S1 Sportback from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.8 and 5.9 seconds respectively. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Like all Audi S models, the S1 and the S1 Sportback also come with quattro permanent all-wheel drive onboard. The design meanwhile is pretty much the same as the A1 Quattro concept launched in 2011.
There are however a couple of new features, including xenon plus headlights, horizontally structured graphics on the rear LED lights and four new exterior colours. Oh and if you’re feeling particularly outrageous, you can a large roof spoiler with the optional Quattro pack.
It doesn’t look like there will be any new driver-facing tech, but that’s hardly surprising given that Audi’s S series cars are all about performance. If anything, it’s fairly likely that some of the big tech will be stripped out from the cars.
