Fancy a drive in the snow? Check out these push-button studded tyres
We don’t often write about tyres on Motorburn — mainly because you’d probably hunt us down and beat us senseless if we ever got into the habit — but these are something special.
Finnish company Nokian has unveiled a concept tyre that allows the driver to deploy snow and ice studs at the push of a button.
Yep, as Jalopnik points out, a gadget that’s been in James Bond’s arsenal since 1987.
The concept tyres were built in celebration of 80th anniversary of the first winter tyre, built by Nokian, back in 1934.
If the company manages to get the technology production ready, it could prove a massive saving for people in areas affected by snow and ice on the roads. Ordinary studded tyres are pretty much unusable in normal road conditions, meaning that people in these areas have to have at least two sets of tyres, as well as finding somewhere to store them.
