CarVi wants to bring high-end safety tech to your old clanger
If you’re a dedicated Motorburn reader, you’ll know that you don’t necessarily have to have a brand new car to take advantage of the best safety tech on offer today. As it turns out though, you don’t have to be completely DIY proficient either.
Well, that’s if Silicon-Valley-based startup CarVi has its way at any rate. The company has developed a windscreen-mounted device which pairs up with your smartphone and, apparently, analyses road conditions in real-time.
Doing so, the creators say, means that it can provide alerts when you tailgate too closely or change lanes without signaling.
The device will also monitor your driving in real-time — so it’ll know for instance if you accelerate to suddenly or brake too hard — and send stats to your phone.
While the device appears to be aimed firmly at the consumer market for now, with CarVi using raising funding through Indiegogo, it seems like the kind of device insurance companies would love to get incentivise their customers to use.
