News 24 gets a dose of internet radio

Before you start tensing up again, relax. This isn’t a new episode in the internet radio stats row that’s been raging over the last couple of days.

News 24, which is a major part Africa’s largest online publishing group 24.com today unveiled a “strategic collaboration” with South African internet radio station 2OceansVibe Radio.

The partnership allows people to listen to the internet radio station directly from the news site’s front page.

This is big for 2OceansVibe, and probably comes as a welcome relief after the controversy of the last couple of days.

News 24 meanwhile appears to be playing it safe with the partnership. The button that links the 2OceansVibe stream appears fairly low down on the page, just above its user-generated news section.

Things haven’t always gone smoothly for the News 24’s publisher 24.com, which consists of 22 web channels with a combined audience of more than four-million monthly users. In late 2011, it retrenched around 10% of its staff. At the time it said the retrenchments were made on an organisational rather than financial basis.
