Samsung to open Silicon Valley R&D centre
Korean tech giant Samsung looks set to open a research and development centre in Mountain View, California.
If you’re wondering why that sounds familiar, it’s because that’s Google country. It’s also just a ten minute drive away from the its fiercest legal rival Apple.
It claims that the R&D centre, to be run by its Samsung Information Systems America division, will “provide a state-of-the-art campus that can support the current rapid growth in the organization, and also provide the infrastructure to support Samsung’s open innovation and university collaboration activities”.
According to SISA president Jay Chang: “Our new R&D Center will provide an outstanding environment to support our plans for strategic growth and attracting the very best employees. Our company will benefit from the dynamic location, the culture and the diversity of talent here in the region.”
Construction is anticipated to start in the second half of 2013 and should be completed by 2014. While the company has been active in the area for 20 years, it says it’s looking to expand further into the US.
