FNB banking app gets more tablet friendly
First National Bank (FNB) today launched a revamped version of its banking app, tailored specifically for tablets.
The bank was the first in South Africa to launch an app in 2011, with its major competitors all eventually following suit. The new tablet app has most of the same features as the smartphone banking app, in addition to a spinning sphere which FNB says will provide you with access to product information and news.
The bank also claims that the app “is customised to make the most of the inherent touch functionality on your tablet device” and that its interactive nature “provides a uniquely hands on, sensory and intuitive banking experience”.
Tuning the app specifically for tablets means that you can now also perform traditional banking transactions and more using spin, scroll, swipe, double tap and touch functionality.
The FNB app for tablets is available from the Apple App Store (for the iPad) and Google Play Store, although the Windows 8 App is still waiting for final approval.
Those unique tablet features have made the app a little more bulky too. The iPad app is 57.1Mb, a lot more than 17.8Mb you’ll have to download for the iPhone version of the app. One interesting absence on the iPad app is the geo-payments facility that seemed so innovative when it launched on the smartphone version of the apps. FNB hasn’t given any clear reason for its absence, so with a bit of luck, it’ll appear in an update.
